A Return to JOY

A Return to JOY

In this five-session class, you will learn what JOY is and how that is supposed to be our natural state as believers.

John 15:11

11 These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.

Joy is supposed to be our “normal state” as believers. The Lord Jesus said that the joy that was his would remain—i.e. take up residence—in us. When that joy slips away, we can come back to it when we focus on the things from God that He says bring us joy.

What is Joy? How do you know when you have joy?

There are things that, in and of themselves, cannot cause joy:

· Being part of a church, ministry, or organization

· Coming from a “good family.”

· Our appearance

· Having wealth

These things may bring you happiness, but that is due only to outward circumstances.

According to Dictionary.com, HAPPINESS results from the possession or attainment of what one considers good.[1]What happens if I get something I think is good, but God says it is bad? Or if I win the lottery, then I find out it was a mistake?

Habakkuk 3:17 ff

17Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls:

18Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation.

19The LORD God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds' feet, and he will make me to walk upon mine high places. To the chief singer on my stringed instruments.
